Isabele came to Dr. Small’s office at age 25 with large keloid scars on her upper chest and shoulders.

Isabele explained it was difficult as a woman to have visible scars especially on the chest and that it diminished her confidence. Before the scars, she had been a swimmer but she stopped wearing a bathing suit because of them and discontinued swimming all together.

Isabele told us that she felt embarrassed when she’d gone to other providers because they had been taken aback by the size and severity of the scars, and so, for over 10 years she had not sought care for her scars and instead kept them hidden and always covered.

Her experience with Dr. Small has been different. She said Dr. Small was “great because she understands, is caring and makes me feel comfortable. She is also confident, calm, listens and she knew what was going on with my skin right away and how to treat it and made a treatment plan for me.”

Isabele has had 3-4 Kenalog injections and has seen progress she never thought possible. She is reassured to know there are effective treatments for her skin condition. Her confidence is growing, she is feeling better about herself, and is looking forward to starting back up with activities.
